JOB SHADOWING OPPORTUNITIES

The Ranken Jordan Job Shadow Program provides invaluable experiential learning opportunities across most of the practice areas at the hospital. The program offers one-time-only sessions in the department of your choice (depending on availability). Program participants will experience Ranken Jordan’s innovative Care Beyond the Bedside model of patient care. This is observation only; no holding, changing or feeding patients.

After you complete the application you will be directed to complete the necessary documentation.

ELIGIBILITY

  • High school students age 16 and above (a parent or guardian signature is  required for all applicants 18 years of age and under)
  • College students
  • Individuals exploring a second career

GOALS

  • Observe a “day in the life” for the  role of your choice
  • Ask questions about daily tasks and duties
  • Check your compatibility with the  chosen role

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY

  • One-time, three-hour job shadow experience with the Ranken Jordan Occupational Therapy Department
  • Tuesday – Thursday
  • 9a – noon  or 1p – 4p

NURSING

  • One-time shadow experience with a Ranken Jordan Registered Nurse
  • Monday – Friday
  • 7a-1p,  7a- 11a,  or  11a-3p

SPEECH THERAPY

  • One-time shadow experience with a Ranken Jordan Speech Therapist
  • Monday – Friday
  • 9a – 5p
  • Your specific block of time will be determined by availability

PHYSICAL THERAPY

  • One-time shadow experience with the Ranken Jordan Physical Therapy Department
  • Tuesday – Thursday
  • 9a – noon or 1p – 4p

RESPIRATORY THERAPY

  • One-time shadow experience with the Ranken Jordan Respiratory Therapy Department
  • Friday-only
  • 8a – noon 

CHILD LIFE or RECREATIONAL THERAPY

  • One-time shadow experience with the Ranken Jordan PHRS Department
  • Monday – Friday
  • 9a – 11a  or  2p – 4p

Nurse Practitioner Clinical Experience
Nurse Practitioner Students who are seeking this advanced degree will have the opportunity to gain clinical hours with a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. This hands-on experience will offer an invaluable opportunity for the motivated student to learn about children with medically complex conditions. Motivated students will also benefit to learn from Ranken Jordan’s “Care Beyond the Bedside” model of care.

THERAPEUTIC RECREATION INTERNSHIP

The therapeutic recreation internship student is an active member of the Pediatric Health Related Services team (PHRS), which includes Child Life Specialists, Recreational Therapists, and Music Therapists. This hands-on experience will offer an invaluable opportunity for the motivated student who is passionate about helping children with medically complex conditions benefit from Ranken Jordan’s “Care Beyond the Bedside” model of care.

Internships and Practicums

CHILD LIFE PRACTICUM

The Child Life practicum is geared toward students who have completed related Child Life coursework and are interested in pursuing a career in the Child Life field. Students are part of the Pediatric Health Related Services (PHRS) team, which includes Child Life Specialists, Recreational Therapists, and Music Therapists.
