Our Story

Ranken Jordan Pediatric Bridge Hospital was founded as a pediatric long-term care facility in 1941 to help children with complex conditions. Over the years, a growing number of children have required more complex care as modern medicine’s advancements save more lives.

Ranken Jordan cared for our first ventilator-dependent patient in 2001. Today, half of our patients are on ventilators. In response to the growing need, in 2004, Ranken Jordan built a new hospital —the only licensed, specialized pediatric hospital in Missouri. Our modern, child-centered hospital provides vital, advanced care for these medically complex children. However, the hospital’s initial 34 beds were quickly full and the hospital had a  long wait list.

Ranken Jordan again took a leadership role to meet the ever-growing need for complex care. In February 2018, the hospital nearly doubled capacity to 60 beds with the Berges Family Foundation Adolescent Center, a three-story, 75,000-square-foot, $35 million expansion.

We’re proud of our bright, lively facility that encourages the healing power of play with indoor and outdoor playgrounds, a baseball field, a pool and a climbing wall. Also, therapeutic gardens and rose bushes on the campus honor our founder, Mary Ranken Jordan, who loved roses and gardening. With every child-focused detail, Ranken Jordan is a hopeful place where children come to recover and discover a new, positive pathway.

As our building footprint has expanded, so has our team. Ranken Jordan has grown our team from 50 to more than 400 to offer care for more patients. Our interdisciplinary patient care team includes doctors, nurse practitioners, nurses, and respiratory, occupational, speech and physical therapists, child life specialists, dietitians, pharmacists, psychologists/psychiatrists, social workers and spiritual care, as well as recreation therapy, and music, art and pet therapies.

This dynamic, compassionate team brings together enthusiasm and experience to provide Care Beyond the Bedside and to say YES.

Throughout all Ranken Jordan’s growth, the people and mission have remained positive and forward-thinking. Ranken Jordan is a special place where team members are encouraged to take those important extra moments with patients and families without feeling rushed.

We have a steadfast commitment to Mary Ranken Jordan’s philosophy to put children first. Our ultimate goal is to help every child heal physically, spiritually and emotionally so they can return home.
