Prospective Patients

Home 5 Prospective Patients

We've got your back.

We're here for your child. We're here for you.

Take a deep breath. Life is changing, but it will be manageable. We’re going to show you how, and move at your pace. Have a look around and get to know us.

Not your average hospital.

Our 140,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor space includes adaptive play spaces, gardens, art and music rooms, even a putting green. As one of our patients put it, “It’s kind of hard not to have fun here.”

The proven power of play.

We’re such believers in the life-changing powers of play that we built a new model called Care Beyond the Beside. It’s why children and families love being here, and attracts many of the top professional minds in transitional healthcare.

The best way to get back to life? Start living it.

As an inpatient or an outpatient, your child has access to top physicians, specialists, and therapists. But it’s our innovative Care Beyond the Bedside model that really sets us apart. And has proven to help families get their lives back sooner than they thought.

Imagine getting better by baking brownies, or painting with a friend. Imagine the rush of kicking a ball or sliding down a slide instead of staring out the window. For the patients at Ranken Jordan, most of their time between breakfast and bed is spent outside of their hospital rooms for supervised play.

Admission Process

1. Referral Submission

Submission provided by referral physician/clinician to discuss patient’s eligibility. Families are informed about the option and encouraged to explore Ranken Jordan through a virtual or in-person tour.

2. Medical Readiness Review

Verify the patient’s stability, including respiratory needs, medications, nutrition, lab requirements, and vital signs. Coordinate with subspecialists for follow-ups and address any behavioral or social concerns. Ensure all necessary preparations, such as medication acquisition and nursing education, are complete.

3. Insurance and Care Coordination

The intake coordinator will work with the patient’s care manager to obtain insurance authorization. Provide the care manager’s contact details to facilitate communication.

4. Transfer and Handoff

On the day of transfer, Ranken Jordan will coordinate with the provider for a hand-off. Ensure transport includes discharge documents, parental or guardian consent, and imaging if needed.

Of course you have questions. We have answers.

Can I stay at Ranken Jordan with my child?
Yes. Our space allows one visitor over 18 to stay overnight. During the day, other visitors are welcome, and families are encouraged to participate in their child’s care together and enjoy the building beyond the patient unit, such as our playgrounds, gardens, the book nook, and play spaces. Our team hosts social events throughout the month for families, support groups for caregivers, and fun family days for the whole family.
How do you stay in contact with my child’s other specialists?
The medical staff at Ranken Jordan will continue to communicate and coordinate with your outside providers. They will discuss care and medication changes and provide updates. If your child has an appointment with another doctor, our transport team will take them to those appointments. We encourage parents to prepare their children for and to attend the appointments.
How can my child attend appointments outside of Ranken Jordan?
While your child is a patient at Ranken Jordan, we will transport your child to appointments, tests and treatments that are performed at outside facilities. A member of our specialized transport department will accompany your child in our transport van to keep your child safe.
How long will my child stay at Ranken?
Each patient is unique, so there is no typical length of stay at our hospital. You are a crucial part of your child’s care team. Throughout their stay you will be invited to participate in regular care team conferences to discuss goals, plans, and progress as you work towards bridging home.
Are meals provided to caregivers?
We offer a complimentary caregiver meal for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You may bring food from home, have food delivered, or visit local restaurants. We also have a minimart with food, snacks and beverages to purchase with a credit or debit card. A microwave, refrigerator and freezer are available in the family lounge to store and prepare food. Our patients are served breakfast, lunch, and dinner in our shared dining room.
Can I smoke at Ranken Jordan?
No. Many of our patients are on ventilators and need breathing support. For the health and safety of all our patients, caregivers, and team members, we are a smoke-free campus.

“I still think about how Ranken Jordan changed my life.”
