Individuals

Whether it’s swinging on the jungle gym, going on an outing (like to the Zoo!) or even helping behind the scenes, Volunteers make a direct and immediate impact on the children and staff at Ranken Jordan every day.

Ranken Jordan cannot provide court-mandated community service hours. Standard on-boarding takes about 30 days.

A SAMPLE OF VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES AT RANKEN JORDAN

THERAPY

  • Support a child in their Therapy session
  • Help keep therapy toys and equipment clean
  • Prepare supplies for therapy sessions

ADMINISTRATION

  • Help with fundraising or events
  • Assist with special projects

FACILITIES

  • Help us keep the hospital clean
  • Stock, label and organize supplies
  • Help with laundry

PEDIATRIC HEALTH RELATED SERVICES

  • Encourage kids to get out their rooms to play and be kids
  • Co-facilitate activities such as art, music, and cooking
  • Effectively interact with teen and young adult patients

CONCIERGE

  • Greet families, patients, and visitors
  • Assist with special projects

CLINICAL SERVICES

  • Engage with infants and toddlers through socialization and play
  • Play with preschool, school-age children, and young adults to promote normalcy

PLEASE REVIEW THE FOLLOWING VOLUNTEER GUIDELINES:

REQUIREMENTS

  • At least 16 years of age. (Under 16? We suggest the Junior Board.)
  • Complete 3-hour orientation before you start (offered monthly).
  • Receive a Tuberculosis screening test (at orientation, if available) and a yearly flu shot (prior to first shift).
  • If 18 or older, allow Ranken Jordan to perform a background check.
  • Commit to a minimum of two scheduled hours per week and forty (40) total hours of service.
  • Submit a reference letter from someone unrelated.

EXPECTATIONS

  • Confidence and ability to engage with medically complex patients and their families.
  • Flexibility and willingness to take initiative.
  • Willingness to tackle a variety of tasks.
  • High-level of comfort asking for assistance, guidance, and direction.
  • Commitment to honest communication and immediate report of any concerns.

ENTERTAINMENT GROUP

  • We LOVE positive & uplifting messages of inclusion
  • Ranken Jordan is the perfect audience for:
    • Musicians/Singers/Groups
    • Dance Groups
    • Children’s Theater Company’s
    • Circus / Magic
    • Storytellers
  • Can exceed five-person maximum with permission
  • Costumes for entertainment groups must be child-friendly

  • You don’t need specialized skills. You just need a big heart and the passion to help.
  • Board games with patients
  • Arts & Crafts with patients
  • Max. group size of five members
  • We restrict groups from patient contact in December in January as a health/safety precaution

GENERAL GUIDELINES

  • Each volunteer must sign a hold harmless and confidentiality form (If under 18, forms require parent/legal guardian signature).
  • Limited group times are offered in one-hour increments
  • Children younger than 18 need a chaperone
  • Children younger than 10 are unable to volunteer
  • Due to allergies, please do not bring: food and drinks, latex balloons or products
  • Please note that during Flu season rescheduling may be necessary to ensure patient safety. If you or anyone in your group is experiencing flu-like symptoms please refrain from attending

Young Professional Board

Looking for a way to get involved at Ranken Jordan? Become a Friend of the Young Professionals Board!

Young professionals (ages 21-40) interested in contributing to Ranken Jordan’s Care Beyond the Bedside mission are eligible to join.

Membership requirements include completion of a one-time online application and an annual $25 membership due.

Friends of the Ranken Jordan Young Professionals Board will receive the following benefits:

  • Discounted ticket to networking happy hours
  • Discounted tickets to annual Young Professionals Board events
  • Opportunity to volunteer for special events
  • E-blasts with upcoming events, news, recaps, and more
  • Consideration for a position on the Board after one year as a Friend or earlier should a position become available

Junior Board

“Kids Helping Kids!”

The Ranken Jordan Junior Board is an extracurricular service club for K-12 student-leaders who are inspired to change the world one patient at a time.

Junior Board members are the best and brightest from schools throughout The Metro Area who plan and produce dynamic fundraising events and activities to support the patients of first bridge hospital ever developed. Joining the Ranken Jordan Junior Board reinforces the drive for inclusion, equality and compassion that is within each of us…and you’ll have a blast helping pediatric patients make the transition from hospital to home.
