Grateful Young Santa Delivers Toys from an Unusual Sleigh
A young Santa in a small Tesla Cybertruck will be cruising the halls of Ranken Jordan Pediatric Bridge Dec. 21 at 4pm to deliver toys to every child. And this jolly guy bought every gift himself in appreciation for what Ranken Jordan means to him. Santa, AKA Ryan Joseph, or RJ, spent his first Christmas at Ranken Jordan 10 years ago when he was just a few weeks old. Since then, he has returned for outpatient therapy and plays Challenger Baseball each season at Ranken Jordan.
Shawn Dryden Appointed Next President and CEO of Ranken Jordan Pediatric Bridge Hospital
Following a national search, Shawn Dryden has been selected to serve as the next president and CEO of Ranken Jordan Pediatric Bridge Hospital. Ranken Jordan specializes in caring for children with complicated medical diagnoses and their families – helping them transition from hospital to home. Dryden starts in the position Jan. 1, 2023.
Ranken Jordan Pediatric Bridge Hospital Awarded 2022 Play Grant by Children’s Hospital Association and The Toy Foundation
Ranken Jordan Pediatric Bridge Hospital is excited to share it has been awarded a play grant from the Children’s Hospital Association (CHA) and The Toy Foundation (TTF). The Children’s Hospital Play Grant Program was created to bring the healing power of play to children in hospitals through projects incorporating play therapy into care services. At Ranken Jordan, play is an integral part of the healing process, and this grant recognizes the shared value of play as part of therapy.
Girl Scout Donates Recycled Bench for Families
Sydney Flack, a Girl Scout from Maryland Heights, has been in the scouts since Kindergarten and was ready to earn her Silver Award. As she rounded businesses in her community selling cookies and offering support, many of them recommended she visit Ranken Jordan Pediatric Bridge Hospital. She reached out to the CEO who gave her a tour of the hospital. “He mentioned the new play garden was just completed but there was limited seating for families,” says Flack. “It was a perfect project because I had made benches before as a Girl Scout, so I already knew how I could help.”
Tricks to Banish Boo-Boos and Pain
Unfortunately, pain can be part of life for any child, but especially for children with complex medical conditions or severe injuries. The good news is kids don’t have to suffer through pain. The team at Ranken Jordan Pediatric Bridge Hospital is committed to addressing pain with patients both in and out of the hospital. Child life specialists at Ranken Jordan are child development experts trained to help children of every age cope with hospitalization, procedures, and pain.
Inclusive Hair Care Project: Helping Patients Look Their Best to Feel Their Best
Ranken Jordan’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Council initiated the Inclusive Hair Care Project to increase staff awareness around how to care for, maintain and style hair of different textures. The overall goal of this project was to ensure all patients are treated fairly regardless of their ethnic background.

That’s proven once again after the hospital recently launched an innovative program called OZ, short for the Optimization Zone, to ensure children in the sensitive developmental ages of 0-5 spend more time out of their beds engaged in play and social activities.
Daisy Award Winner is on a Mission
Playful, calm, empathetic, friendly, caring, helpful, phenomenal. These are just some of the many reasons Ranken Jordan Pediatric Bridge Hospital nurses nominated their co-worker Katy Cox, RN, for the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. “She is the type of person that gives you a sense of happiness and relief when you see she is working with you that day because you know the day will automatically be a little better with Katy there,” says one team member.
2021 Service to Children Award
A professional commitment became a personal passion for Tom Minogue. After nearly 40 years of dedication to Ranken Jordan Pediatric Bridge Hospital, Tom and his wife, Becky, are being honored with the Mary Ranken Jordan Service to Children Award. Given with heartfelt gratitude on behalf of children, the Mary Ranken Jordan Service to Children Award honors those who selflessly serve Ranken Jordan, the St. Louis community, and by their example, encourage others to do the same. The award also recognizes individuals and organizations demonstrating commitment to the ideals and vision established in 1941 by our founder, Mary Ranken Jordan.
Big River Running Company Selects Ranken Jordan
Big River Running Company selected Ranken Jordan Pediatric Bridge Hospital as its charitable partner for the first half of 2022. “We’ve been around since 2006 and try to be as active and generous as possible in our community,” says Chrissy Fredrikson, director of finances at Big River Running Company. “A few years ago, we launched our charitable action program called ‘Big River Gives Back.’ Through that program we donate 10 percent of sales of all Big River branded merchandise to charities in St. Louis. It’s a great way for our customers to feel like when they shop local, they impact local.”
New Ranken Jordan Board Chair Announced
Ranken Jordan Pediatric Bridge Hospital is named after its founder, Mary Ranken Jordan. Through the 80 year history, women have comprised many seats on the board of directors. Recently, the hospital named its first female board chair, Betsy Prosperi, effective as of Feb 1st, 2022.
