A Legacy of Support and Innovation: Honoring Ed Costigan

Edward “Ed” Costigan was introduced to Ranken Jordan Pediatric Bridge Hospital by a friend who knew his deep love for children. Impressed by the hospital’s mission, Ed began to take a personal interest in Ranken Jordan. As a trustee of the Guth Foundation Charitable Trust, he developed a meaningful relationship with the hospital.
The Guth Foundation Charitable Trust started investing in technologies and equipment that significantly improved patient therapy outcomes. Beyond financial contributions, Ed championed Ranken Jordan by sharing inspiring stories of patients and the hospital’s work with his family, friends, and associates.
Sadly, Ed passed away this past September. To honor his memory, his family decided to support the patients who had touched his heart. They reached out to Ranken Jordan, expressing their desire to direct memorial contributions to the hospital and inquiring about special projects or opportunities they could support.

Outpatient Therapy Manager, Erica Pfeiffer, had a wonderful idea. She envisioned a camp for patients that would integrate therapy skills and games in a group social setting. This camp would be ideal during vacation periods when therapy schedules are often disrupted. Patients could sign up for sessions that suited their needs and schedules. This idea resonated with Ed’s family, and they decided to direct donations made in his honor to support this initiative.
Thus, Adventure ReimaginED Therapy Camp was born, with its first sessions held from December 30 to January 3. The camp featured sessions focused on therapy skills, such as Gross Motor Group and Feeding Group, as well as social programming like Social Group and Arts and Crafts Group. Twenty families participated, including patients with complex medical needs and their siblings. Adventure ReimaginED was a resounding success, with parent evaluations indicating that their children made progress and expressing a desire to sign up for future camps.
Adventure ReimaginED is a testament to the lasting impact Ed Costigan had at Ranken Jordan as both a supporter and champion. His legacy continues to inspire and support our vision of a world where every child with complex medical needs lives their best life.
